With a history of more than 80 years, Isen Honten is a classic for Tonkatsu in Ueno area. They are the creators of the Tonkatsu Sandwich, which become a popular sandwich normally sold at train stations all around Japan. The deep-fried Tonkatsu is really soft, tasty, and crispy. You can actually cut it with your chopsticks. Their signature dishes are the Toku Rosu Katsu and the previously mentioned Katsu Sandwich. The decoration is very traditional—you will travel back in time to the Showa era. ... If you are around Ueno park or the museums around it, including the busy street of Ameyoko, make sure to stop by for a wonderful Tonkatsu. The restaurant is one of the oldest shops in Tokyo that serve this dish. NOTE: At peak hours, there's a line between 10-20 minutes.
